HOW TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS

This was the question posed to me by Solar Business Correspondent Kim Go when she interviewed Popjunklove for her report.

She asked, "Should you have a great idea first?"

"It depends.", I said.
Some start because they believe they have a great idea that answers a need.
Others start because they need extra cash like me and my sister.

For those who are like us, finding out what business to invest in is tricky.
Unlike those in the first group, we have yet to think of a problem that needs solving.
This seeming disadvantage, though, should not be a reason to be discouraged.
Having a great idea doesn't guarantee success.
Learning and adjusting from your failures will.

DIY CHALLENGE: DIRT CHEAP DISPLAY RACKS

One of our Dad's frustrations is seeing my sister and I carrying heavy racks every time we join bazaars.
Since my sister and I are trying to cut costs, we often assemble our display racks on our own.
Seeing us doing manual labor reminds my Dad of the reasons why he doesn't want us to do business.
He sent us to the best schools after all...why should we end up carrying racks, right?

Instead of remind him though that he was the one who bought us those heavy racks in the first place...
My sister and I just decided to do away with them and build an entirely new display stand for ETC's Fashion Flea Market.
The event is a bazaar-benefit for the Cancer Warriors Foundation.
The organizers reported yesterday that the event was able to raise more than P30k for cancer victims.
Yey! :)

To participate, my sister and I needed 300 likes for this photo!
We got 400! Thank you to everyone who helped us!

THE CRAFTER'S CORNER: PINAY DIYers TO WATCH OUT FOR

I once asked my friend Tishie if her magazine has a DIY section.
"Unfortunately, no.", she said.
Unlike women in the States, apparently, most Filipino women just don't have the time for craft.
I understand. Really.
With work, children and household errands, who has time to do her own necklace, right?

THE CRAFTER'S CORNER: CAT LIMSON OF BEDAZZLE ACCESSORIES

Meeting Cat Limson of Bedazzle Accessories was a humbling experience.
I always whine inside about why things have to be so darn difficult.
I mean, I try my best to be a good person and a good daughter...always.
That's why sometimes, I can't help but complain in my head about why I should be treated as if I'm such a big disappointment.

But when I learned Cat's story...
I felt as if I had no right to complain.
She had moments that I'm sure I could not have handled if I was in her shoes.
So, for getting me off my high horse, Cat...
Thank you.

Let's all welcome Cat in our world, shall we?
HUGS AND KISSES CAAAAAT! :)

YOUR "ART" MATTERS

I used to stand in front of the TV when I was a kid...

Imitating my favorite Hollywood Stars, dreaming of someday becoming just like them...

I used to sing, dance, paint and draw too.
Yes, at that time, I sincerely felt like I already know who I want to be and what I want to do.

DIY CHALLENGE: OLYMPIC-INSPIRED PARTY DECOR FROM SCRAP FELT AND CARTON

ROMA CUP 2012 is officially over.
It's a mini-basketball tournament that I organize for my birthday every year.
This year is extra special for several reasons.
First, it marks the first year of my career shift from reporter to full-time crafter-entrepreneur.
Second, it proves that my craft is able to provide enough to keep my birthday tradition alive.
And third, I have more time on my hands to decorate.
Yey!

My sister and I were actually going for an Olympic-inspired look for the event.
This was the best we could do using some of our unloved materials at home.
