Yes, I'm going to Bukidnon over the weekend for a provincial league.
It will be my first trip to Southern Philippines in my entire 28 years of existence.
I've been to places when I was still a reporter but never in Mindanao.

In light of these developments, I'd like to share with you a post I wrote last year after our provincial league in Dumaguete.
It was my first provincial league as an Ultimate player and it was really an experience to remember.

There are 365 days in a year and often times, we remember only a few.
This year, I’m sure my 5 days in the place called Dumaguete will be among those I would not have a hard time recalling.

I seldom slept during that 5-day period.
Scared I might miss a witty remark, a funny antic, or a green joke from my witty, funny, and green-minded teammates.
I tried to sleep…though I soon realized the futility of the effort.
With teammates and friends coming in and out of our unlocked door,
jumping on and off the bed I could no longer claim as my own…
sleeping is an impossibility.
“What the hell?“, I thought.
“I could always sleep in Manila.”

“Walang malisya” (No malice) is a phrase I heard a thousand times there.
“Good”, I thought.
With guy friends who don’t know the concept of “this-is-the-girls'-bedroom”,
anyone would be forced to get used to the fact that boys and girls hang out in the same bed,
killing time…waiting for another shot of gin.
When a teammate texted me upon arrival in Manila that he already got attached to the Dumaguete people, I thought, “Who wouldn't be attached? We almost chained ourselves to one another!"

Fake sleep. Hang-out. Eat. Play. Party. Drink. x 5 days = Attachment.

So why is it that there are 365 days in a year and often times, we remember only a few?
It is because those are the days when we took the chance, change our routines, and felt new…different.
If that’s the case, I think the appropriate follow up question would be–
Why do people endure more than 300 forgettable days in a year
when it's obvious the ones that matter are those spent outside their office cubicles?

I just hope I'll be able to remember this question next time I'm faced with the same dilemma
of choosing between saving money and enjoying five days of Dumaguete ...
...Because right now...
there isn't a single doubt in my mind that there are just some things in life that one can't put a price tag on.

I have already quit my job and will be enjoying my entire 365 days of 2012 outside my office cubicle.
It was in Dumaguete where I first met my guy. :) This year, I'll be enjoying Bukidnon with him.

"This year is your year..."

This is what the Chinese Universe is telling me...
(or at least everyone like me who was born on the year of the Pig)
If only the Chinese Gods could convince my Dad.
The world would be just perfect.

My Dad in a good mood

You see...
My Dad worked his butt off to enroll me in the best schools.
I went to an all-girls high school.
I graduated from the country's top University.
I'm only a thesis away from my Masteral Degree in Broadcast Communications, also from the same University.
I excelled in all classes.
I graduated with honors.

So you see...
I'm, indeed, my dad's precious, precious little good girl.

Just imagine his disappointment when I've decided to quit my prestigious job as a Chief News Reporter to do business full time.
No more interviewing the President.
No more taking part in history.

Just me, in my room...upcycling whatever it is that I see.

I have nothing more to prove really.
I believe in myself that much.

One more thing I really believe in...
...that I didn't waste my education...
...that my education is the very reason why I knew that it was time for a change...
...and that my education is precisely what prepared me for this very moment.

Oh Chinese Gods...
I just hope you're right...
I don't think I can handle a whole year of my Dad's mood swings.

I heard kids scream as they run towards our display of products.

"This is soooooo cuuuuuutttttttttte!!!"
Some even seem like they're going to have a heart attack.

"Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God."
(With matching hand on their chest and eyes so wide..they looked like their going to pop out)

It's obvious my products got their attention.
Often times that's a dream come true.
On that day, though, I need them to FOCUS ON ME.
It was my first time to give a lecture to students on entrepreneurship...and I'm determined to give them my two cents worth.

"Don't be afraid to try out an idea. You'll never know if it's a good or a bad idea unless you try."

"I know, I know. You're scared of the cost a bad business idea entails. But in today's era, there are lots of ways to save. One can open an online shop and see first if the idea has potential before investing more resources on the venture."

I LOVE NUGGETS launching in Poveda

"Products in the market today are teaching people to be lazy. You don't have to buy all the stuff that your store need. You can make do with the stuff you have at home."

DIY tarp and table cloth, handwritten paper bowl captions

"A bad idea executed is better than a good idea that remains just an idea."

"You don't need to be a business major to do business. Anyone could have a great idea that they could offer to the market."

"Follow your dreams."
"Life is too short to have regrets."

SOLD OUT!!! Thanks Povedans! :)

The words just flowed.
I had no ready module.
I just knew what to say and when to say it.

That's me! :)

I looked at my audience and to my surprise...
It appears I was still competing with my products for attention.

I gave out a sigh and thought, "I might not be able to win this one."

Popjunklove felt loved!

Suddenly, one girl breaks the silence.
"Yey!", I thought..someone might be listening after all.

Determined not to disappoint her with my answer, I gave this one student all my attention.
"Do you have any question about the business?", I asked, a little too eagerly.

(I can't wait for the question!)
(I'm so excited!)
(This is it!)

"I like your lashes."

at the lecture with my guy

Hoping that they at least learned how to upcycle,

Min Ramirez.
Most call her Ate Min.
I, on the other hand, call her, "Best" for Best Friend.
She doesn't like being called that...but because I like to annoy her...I address her "Best" all the time.

Andrea, Marlene, Ate Min, Moi, Mommy Chit
at our office outing in Batangas

Ate Min recently retired as RPN9's Chief News Editor.
Before that though, she witnessed a lot of reporters and friends quit way ahead of her to find opportunities elsewhere.
I'm sure she's already immune to all the drama like most of us who've seen others resign ahead of us as well.
But goodbyes are always a sad matter how big are smiles are for that last group shots together.

So I'm naming my latest creation after my dear friend, Ate Min.

For listening to my rants back when I was still love-less...
For supporting my DIY projects and surprising me with plastics full of soda tabs...
For encouraging me to follow my dreams...

I miss you Best! :)

There are a lot of debates on how to be successful.
Most emphasize the need for unwavering focus and delayed gratification.

For me though,  I believe there's a way to be successful without sacrificing your happiness.
I believe that life is too short to choose one over the other.

Money, yes, is one indicator of success.
It doesn't, however, automatically make you a happy person in an instant.
Yes, I may have lost a few digits to my name now that I'm unemployed but I still feel so much richer and happier.

Wearing my soda can necklace creation
Yes, that me's smiling with pride :)

I can't wait to wake up in the morning to make and to learn.
I sleep a little later than before because I can't wait to finish what I've started.
I may seem busier now but I still feel so much happier...

That's because I LOVE WHAT I DO.

To save, I rarely buy...I make!
To name a few... DIY Tassels and DIY Shop signs

Plus, there's an additional perk of having control over my life.
I don't have a boss to tell me this or that...
I don't have a boss to tell me I can't go somewhere because my leave was not approved.

My first visit to Enchanted Kingdom

My first attendance to our annual family reunion after 3 years

3 birthday celebrations in a span of 7 days

I still want to be rich...literally...someday.
(Just needed to declare it in case I got the Universe confused)

Richer and happier in spirit,

...'til it's gone.

My first friends here know that last year, I suddenly went missing in action.
I started blogging again before 2011 ended and thank God for that!

All I can say is...I MISSED THIS!

Haven't been able to post much lately because our internet at home is down..
Just dropping by to let you know that I'm still very much here and I can't wait to catch up on your latest adventures.

'Til my next (hopefully) more substantive post!

For now, here are some DIY projects that are making me happy and glowing these days.

From scrap felt to mustache-inspired accessory

More tassel bracelets!

It's not always a sweet ride...
You know, the life of an entrepreneur.

But I guess it's true what they say...
When you love what you do, it doesn't feel like work...

My latest DIY Project.

I was on a roll.
Cleaned my room on January 1st.
Started working on a new product exactly the day after that.

...are just some of the strong, mighty words that are popping into my head.

Soda tab bracelets transformed

January 3, I vowed, will be as productive as 1 and 2.
Take photos of our lego and cassette tape belt collection.

Glue gun...

...and my superhero moment...

Still determined to make the most out of my 3rd day of the year...

I washed the dishes

At least I made my parents smile...
