FEBRUARY 29, 2011

I know, I know...
there's no February 29 in year 2011...
...a fact my brother who was born on a leap year knows very well.
Don't worry brother deary...
You'll be celebrating your 16th birthday on the actual date next year.

Happy 15th birthday, Kuya Mark :)

So if February 29 is your birthdate, your anniversary or just an important day for you...
when do you celebrate it?
I just learned today that Facebook's birthday application and your cellphone alarm give notifications on the 28th.
So there you go...a little trivia for you :)

But of course all of us already know...it's not really the date that matters.

My family's attempt to celebrate my brother's birthday :)

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR FRIENDS

One can't really know a person fully.
This applies even to your partner, your family or even yourself.
So never be complacent or assuming when it comes to special people in your life.
They could still amaze you, you know...
...you just got to spend more time with them.

JLo BREAKS DOWN IN AMERICAN IDOL

I am officially IN LOVE with Jennifer Lopez.
She's the sweetest judge ever.
She cried after telling Chris Medina he didn't make it in the top 24.
"I just don't feel like I told him in the right way," she said crying.
ISN'T SHE THE SWEETEST?!!

JLo's "Feelin' So Good" is one of my all time "feel good" songs.
Just its opening lines is enough to remind me how lucky I am just to be alive.

Speaking of feel good songs, compiling my recent favorites in a playlist is one of the two things I was unable to finish in my 14-goals-in-7-days task.
The other one is practicing a dance routine posted on Youtube.

No more "Tangled"
Ended up watching "Just Go with It"
ate at MERCATO, a food bazaar in Fort :)

THANK GOD for these short term goals, right?
Even if we seem stuck right now, unable to figure out our next move...
These everyday tasks...no matter how simple...are reassuring reminders that...
YES, WE'RE STILL MOVING...CHANGING...GROWING. :)

GLEE SEASON 2 EPISODE 3

Yes, it's weird I'm talking about Glee after everything that's happening in the office.
But at least with this episode, I learned something about myself.

My friends know who I turn to when I'm drunk.
Just so you guys will still respect me...
I'll leave this one a mystery.

Unlike the unresolved issues concerning my career...
it appears I'm back to square 1...still confused and clueless.

TO QUIT OR NOT TO QUIT?

Apparently, the president of SOLAR decided to retain RPN News...
The sign off will push through on Friday but only for 5 days to give way to the reformatting.
Instead of creating its own News Department, he 'said' RPN News and Solar could work together to come up with a brand new NEWS PROGRAM.
Is he speaking the truth or simply sugarcoating the inevitable?
The only sure thing right now is that...

RPN9 WILL COME BACK AFTER 5 DAYS FOR ITS REGULAR PROGRAMMING.

Tishie, remember you said AT LEAST I DON'T HAVE TO CHOOSE.
Well, it appears I might have to choose after all.
But hey, where's the pride in letting the UNIVERSE decide my fate, right?
So there you go...

HERE'S TO MAKING MY OWN DECISION!

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE

I’m sure this is a question many of us in RPN9 are asking.
I have a vision.
The long term I already got covered.
But after February 25, the reported sign off?
All I see is uncertainty.

Our former news desk wrote a letter addressed to us, RPN9 reporters. I’ll just quote the part that he issued directly to me.

From Powee's blog

After re-reading my entry about RPN9's reported privatization...
My mind suddenly wandered back in 2006 when my ex and I broke up.
At that time, I seem to have an idea of what was happening but I demanded that he confirm it.
I wanted him to say it aloud. I demanded the truth from him.

But a wise friend asked me then, "Why do you need to hear it from him?"
He said, "You already know what's happening. You could even feel it."
"Would his confirmation change anything?"
"He's already gone."

As of posting time, the RPN9 management has yet to face its employees to clarify the real status of the station's privatization.
Will the station sign off this week?
This is a question that continues to bother many regular and contractual employees in the office.

So for my reporters who my former supervisor claim look up to me --
MY ADVICE:
YOU DON'T HAVE TO HEAR THE IT FROM THEM.
YOU COULD CHOOSE TO EMPOWER YOURSELVES NOW.
MOVE ON.
FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS.
THE FUTURE IS ALWAYS BRIGHT FOR THOSE WHO BELIEVE.

EVEN THE BEST LAID PLANS ARE NO GUARANTEES

(An entry written the night I found out the news)

I had tonight all figured out.
I have 14 goals…4 of which I was planning to do before I call it a night.
…and then a call that changed everything.

RPN9 to sign off next week?
Management: NO COMMENT

What would you do if you learn that your future is in somebody else’s hands?
All the time you thought, “I MAKE MY FUTURE”…
Then suddenly you realized…you’re only lying to yourself.

Yes, YOU’RE the hand that feeds us but DON’T YOU EVER…EVER FORGET that we’re the ones who worked our butts off for the food that you claim you’re serving.
We don’t owe YOU anything.
YOU owe us.

So for this service, at least give us the COURTESY to tell it straight to our face.
THE TRUTH HURTS but it’s way better than UNCERTAINTY and definitely, way way better than hearing it from others.

Before we talk about benefits…before we talk about pays…
Arm us first with THE information so we could prepare, help ourselves and take hold of our future.
No amount of money could replace EMPOWERMENT.
YOU COULD GIVE US MILLIONS but if we still can't say "I MAKE MY FUTURE"
Then, what is the point?

RPN9 may cease to exist but it will live on
through its wonderful, beautiful people
WE LOVE YOU, RPN9!

WORKAHOLICS LOVE TO-DO LISTS!!!

There are two schools of thought...
One says you have to focus on one task and one task alone....until you get it done.

"Is Multitasking Good or Bad?"
Full article here

Another school of thought insists that multitasking is "an effective management tool".

Funny article about multitasking
More on this here

Well, I'm a multitasker who wants to learn how to focus on only one task at hand.
This is hard, though, for a workaholic girl like me who admittedly just has too much on her hands.
So to keep me sane...I love love love love love making to-do lists.

My favorite multitasking activity, surfing and drinking coffee
Thank you Starbucks for my 2011 organizer.

Wonderful Abby of Robots in Trouble made a list of goals she'd like to achieve this week. She described them as SMALL GOALS but come to think of it...a goal...even the simplest, easiest one...is never ever small, right?
Any goal is a step towards a DREAM, a TARGET, a DESTINATION...
...and accomplishing this, my dear Abby, is already a BIG achievement. :)

Like NO 11: Curl my hair, for instance, it's about CONFIDENCE
and FEELING GOOD ABOUT YOURSELF :)
More dose of Abby here.

So what are my 14 to-do things in the next 7 days?
*Evil laugh*
This is so muuuuch fun!
*squealing like a true workaholic*

1. Post this entry.
2. Read the papers first before surfing the net.
3. Make ISKRAMBOL mixtures for two upcoming events this weekend.
4. Dress up extra for FRIDAY! :)
5. Be inspired. Watch "TANGLED".
6. Eat good food without the 'expensive bill' guilt.
7. Satisfy my vanity. Have a camwhore day!

with Emmy taken long, long time ago

8. DVD day. "The Tourist" with family.
9. Finish POPJUNKLOVE's zipper dangling earring product line.
10. Replenish POPJUNKLOVE's bottle cap ring collection.
11. Study a dance routine on You Tube then dance my heart out.
12. Organize a new "inspiration, confidence-boosting" IPOD playlist.
13. Have at least one good defense block, one good cut, one good assist and one good end-zone catch during this weekend's frisbee matches.
14. Pray and meditate.

Grabbed from our dance routine video at the office
Our anything-goes choreography! :)

Ooooh. I cannot wait.
*squealing like a true workaholic* :)

Now it's your turn.
Are you a mono or a multitasker? :)

HAPPY THOUGHTS

Yes, I'm really really really really really having a bad morning.
Hope it doesn't continue for the rest of the day.

HAPPY THOUGHTS.
HAPPY THOUGHTS.
HAPPY THOUGHTS.
HAPPY THOUGHTS.
HAPPY THOUGHTS.

One happy thought:
Just some of the chocolates I received
for Valentines day...
The rest already eaten or shared
before I took this photo...

Thinking of my bad game last Sunday isn't helping.
Good thing I watched Junior Masterchef and Live to Dance, right after.
I saw others who are worse off but didn't give up on their dreams.
Thinking about them again today is making me smile.
Again, hats off to all of them!

I also read an interesting quote yesterday by Consuelo Perez Ortiga, a young woman who kept a diary of her affair with Jose Rizal, my country's national hero.
Oooh. I love learning new perspectives regardless of whether I agree with them or not. :)

Just writing this entry about some of the things I should be happy about is already putting me in a good mood.
Thanks guys for always listening...or I think in this case the better term is..."reading".
I am so lucky! Thank you Lord. :)

Edited this post to include these new photos.
See...God loves me!
Another batch of chocolates just this morning! Yey!

VALENTINES DAY TIP: PICK UP LINES YOU SHOULD NEVER USE

(“Mr. Bright Side” playing at the background)
Guy1:                        Hi. Are you bride?
Roma:                        Sorry…?
Guy1:                        Are you bride?
Roma:                        Sorry I don't understand you.
Guy1:                        I mean…are you a bride? Like the song…
Roma:                       (confused look)
Guy1:                        You know…bride…married?
Roma:                        No. (smiled then looked for my friends)

Guy2:                         Hi. Would you like to dance with me?
Roma:                        (Shaked my head no)
Guy2:                         If I buy you a drink…would you dance with me?
Roma:                        (Disappointed look) Sorry no…
Guy2:                         At least give me your name…
Roma:                         No..sorry…
Guy2:                         You don’t have a name…?
Roma:                         No…I have a name….I just don’t want to give it to you.

(Moving to another place)
Guy2:                        (Handed me a piece of paper)
In case you change your mind…
Roma:                        (Shocked look) Sorry…I won’t.

(Guy approaching with her girlfriend)
Guy3:                        Hi. Meet my wife.
Roma:                       (Smiling to his wife) Hi.
Guy3:                        (Whispering) Sorry I’m taken. If I'm not...
I'll be one of these guys vying
                                  for your attention.
Roma:                       (Moving away, disappointed)

With my single friends, Dale, Phoebe and Diane
First time in Republiq Club

I’m not the bar-type kind of girl but last Friday…I tried barhopping for a change.
Like what they say, “If you want something different, you have to do something different.”
Plus I thought…I’ll get to dance…how bad could it get?

My facebook status before my trip to
Rogers Bar in Roxas, Distillery in Eastwood and Republiq Club in Pasay

Hmmm…so what did I learn….
…that it’ll be very difficult to find THE right person in bars.
But hey, I’m still not totally closing my mind on the idea.
I was there.
There’s also a chance a guy just like me wanted to do something different for that night.
Who knows…he might even have a good pick up line compared to guys 1,2 and 3…

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY, MY LOVES! :)
